Privacy Policy

The short version: Munchdrop has no accounts. Your location is used on your phone to search nearby places through Apple Maps; it is never sent to us, never stored as a history, and never used to track you. To show photos of the winning restaurant, the app asks our small photo server, which asks Google. Google also serves the ads in the free version.

Who we are

Munchdrop is made by Ravneet Nagpal, an independent developer, who is responsible for this app and this policy. Contact details are at the bottom of this page.

What we collect

Munchdrop has no user accounts and no sign-in. We do not sell or share your personal information, and the only thing that leaves your phone for our own server is described under Restaurant photos below. Everything the app remembers stays on your device, in the app's own storage:

Deleting the app, or tapping Reset Munchdrop in Settings, erases all of it.

Location

If you allow location access, Munchdrop uses your current location to find restaurants around you and to show the area you're in (for example, "Near Roslyn"). The search happens on your device through Apple Maps; your location is not sent to any server of ours. We do not store your location, keep a history of it, build a profile from it, or use it to track you. You can decline or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings; the app needs it to find what's nearby.

Restaurant photos

When Munchdrop picks a winner, it shows photos of that restaurant from Google Maps. To find them, the app sends the winning restaurant's name and map position, plus a random ID created on your phone for this app (used only to stop abuse, like one phone requesting thousands of photos), to Munchdrop's small photo server, which asks Google for the photos. Your own location is not sent. The server keeps only Google's ID for the restaurant (for up to 30 days) and simple daily counters; it keeps no photos and no record of who asked. The photos load straight from Google, so Google sees your device's IP address like any website would. Google's handling of that request is covered by the Google Privacy Policy, and use of Google Maps content is subject to the Google Maps Terms. If photos aren't available, the app shows generic food photos instead, labelled as such.

Ads (free version)

The free version of Munchdrop shows non-personalized ads through Google AdMob. To serve ads, Google's software may collect and use information such as your device's advertising identifier, general (non-precise) location, ad-interaction data and basic diagnostics, in line with Google's advertising policies. Munchdrop does not send Google your precise GPS location or the restaurants you're shown. Google's handling of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Munchdrop asks for your consent through Google's consent message before any ads are requested, and you can change your choice at any time under Settings → Privacy choices. Buying the one-time Munchdrop Pro upgrade removes all ads; once the app knows you have Pro, the ad software is not started at all.

Purchases

The optional Munchdrop Pro upgrade is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Apple processes the payment; Munchdrop never sees your payment details. We only receive Apple's confirmation of whether the upgrade is active on your device.

Third parties

Aside from Google AdMob (free version only), Google Maps photos (above) and Apple's own App Store and Maps services, Munchdrop includes no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. We run no analytics of our own.

Your rights

Because we don't hold any of your data on our side, there is nothing for us to look up, export or delete — it all lives on your device, and you can erase it yourself as described above. If you are in the EU, UK or another region with data-protection rights, you can still contact us with any question or request, and you can complain to your local data-protection authority. For data Google processes to serve ads, see Google's privacy policy linked above.

Children

Munchdrop is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app has no accounts and stores its data on the device.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
